Black HP TouchSmart 15-d037dx is an entry level 15.6 inch laptop in a plain but still glossy and smart looking chassis with an Ivy Bridge Intel i3 processor, a LED backlit touchscreen display for HD quality images, adequate amount of memory for anything an average computer user may use it for, above average storage space and decent connectivity options at a low price.

HP TouchSmart 15-d037dx comes with an Intel Core i3-3130M processor from year 2012 that is a bit faster than other Intel i3 processors at a 2.6GHz speed but not as energy efficient as a Haswell processor but performs successfully in day-to-day tasks at home or office with the Hyperthreading function that enables better performance when multitasking, 4GB DDR3L SDRAM memory for sufficient multitasking in everyday usage, 750GB Serial ATA hard drive at 5400 rpm that is about fifty percent more than the standard size at this price level. It comes pre-installed with the new Windows 8.1 operating system that seems to manage the system memory efficiently and the disk usage rarely goes up to hundred percent, that is when you may experience delays.

15.6" LED-backlit high definition touchscreen display with 1366 x 768 pixel resolution supporting native 720p display resolution and Intel HD graphics 4000 offers good quality image for general photo and video kind of general usage and manages older non-3D and light gaming (some newer games at lower settings and older games at higher settings) and the ability to view HD content on your large screen HDTV via the HDMI port. Touchscreen feature is nice to navigate through the Windows 8’s apps and customisable tiles. Sound is all right with the built-in stereo speakers. The HP TrueVision HD webcam with 720p resolution and a built-in microphone is good for Skype chats.

HP TouchSmart 15-d037dx 15.6" Touch Screen Laptop Review
HP TouchSmart 15-d037dx is 1.20 inch thick and weighs just over 6 pounds so it is not your lightest 15.6 inch laptop, due to having touchscreen and DVD drive, both of which can be pretty useful anyway. The island style keyboard with the 10-key numeric pad and a trackpad that supports multiple gestures at the front is not backlit (which would be hard at this price level). 3-cell 31WHr 2.8Ah li-ion polymer battery lasts between 3 to 4 hours in a single charge depending on how you use it. You have the WLAN 802.11b/g/n wireless, an HDMI port, 2 x USB 2.0 ports, 1 x USB 3.0 port for faster data transfers, Media Card Reader, Bluetooth 4.0, Gigabit Ethernet, DVD burner optical drive and HD webcam with built-in microphone.

Conclusion: The HP 15-d037dx is a nice budget laptop and its most significant feature is its responsive touchscreen, which also adds a bit to the system weight at 6.1 pounds which makes it more of a desktop replacement than a very portable device but not bulky looking with 1.2 inch thickness, the battery life is not very long and the i3 processor is the 3rd generation Ivy Bridge rather than a 4th generation Haswell. However it performs well overall in daily tasks, multimedia and light games with the standard integrated Intel HD 4000 graphics card. Decent image quality, adequate sound, good range of connectivity options, generous SATA storage space for most of your files, durable build and nice looks. So although it is not your top of the range computer with the best features and technical specs to even play the latest games but it is certainly good enough for everyday use for how much it costs.
