HP ProBook 650 G1 is a new 15.6 inch mainstream Windows 7business laptop as part of the 650 series with a modern cutting-edge slimmer design, durable build quality, 4th generation mid-range Intel i5 processor, faster 7200rpm speed hard drive, large amount of memory, good range of connectivity including a DVD Optical drive- it is a great, stylish and powerful computer you can use both in the office and when you are out and about on your way to business meetings etc. and it is equally suitable for fun at home and school work.

HP ProBook 650 G1 is offered with the dual core Haswell Intel i5-4200M at 2.5GHz speed (3MB L3 cache) that is taken up to 3.1GHz dynamically as needed by tasks and stay lower for saving on energy usage and hyper threading for dual cores to handle four threads in parallel, 8GB DDR3L SDRAM for smoother multitasking, 500GB Serial ATA/300 at 7200rpm HDD- average size but faster than the standard 5400rpm that is common to a lot of budget and mid-range laptops and the user friendly Windows 7 Professional operating system but you also get the Win 8 Pro Licence and you can upgrade to Windows 10 for free some time this year too.

15.6 inch high definition SVA eDP anti-glare display with 1366x768 pixel resolution, 16:9 cinematic aspect ratio and Intel HD 4600 graphics which is about 60% faster than the standard Intel HD 4000, webcam with integrated microphone for the best of Skype chats. Black HP ProBook feels solid with its sturdy case with rubberised display top that makes it look a bit like a ThinkPad. It has a 6-cell lithium ion battery for very long battery (although we don’t have the exact duration) and an ergonomic keyboard that feels comfortable to type on, which is also helped by the numeric pad on the right but it is not backlit if you prefer one. Sound is not the best quality through the internal speakers, it is just adequate and this is not designed to be a multimedia laptop anyway. Connectivity options include the DVD-RW SuperMulti Reader and Writer, 802.11bgn wireless, BlueTooth 4.0, Gigabit Ethernet, DisplayPort, 5 x USB 3.0 ports, Media Card Reader- SD, SDHC, SDXC, a VGA port and Headphone/Microphone Combo.

Conclusion: HP ProBook 650 G1 (F2R74UT#ABA) has a powerful Intel i5-4200M processor with a Passmark benchmark score of 4084 on the day of this review so it is capable of handling both the regular daily and more demanding tasks and has a Thermal Design Power of 37 watts. The specs advertised such as the 8GB memory is because the seller opens the original box, inspects the unit and does the upgrades that you see as different. 8GB RAM is plenty for most people, it is on 2 DIMMs and is upgraded from 4GB and supports up to 16GB. For a great desktop PC experience you should consider getting a HP Docking Station of 90W and 120W with the purchase of this HP Probook. 1 month trial version of Microsoft Office comes pre-installed and you may choose to upgrade when the time is due and comes with a 12 month limited parts and labor warranty by HP. It feels like a fast and high performance PC thanks to the powerful processor, upgraded generous amount of RAM and 7200rpm speed hard drive so you open your files quicker than a 5400rpm machine. Although it is promoted as a great corporate and small business laptop there is no reason why it can’t be used at school or for home entertainment.
