Asus TUF FX505DT-AH51 15.6” 120Hz FHD, AMD Ryzen 5 R5-3550H, GTX 1650 Gaming Laptop

Asus TUF FX505DT Gaming Laptop

Asus TUF FX505DT-AH51 is a brand new- 2019 release low-end gaming laptop with the mid-range laptop specs, a 15.6” FHD display with 120Hz refresh rate, Ryzen R5-3550H processor, GTX 1650 graphics card, 8GB RAM, 256GB NVMe SSD, RGB keyboard and Windows 10 operating system.

You certainly can’t expect the performance of the high-end ROG series, but the quad core AMD Ryzen 5 R5-3550H processor at 2.1 up to 3.7 GHz speed appears to be a decent Intel i5 alternative as a high-end CPU with a benchmark score of 8467. The single channel 8GB DDR4 RAM at 2666MHz offers adequate multitasking power and 256GB PCIe SSD is not a bad amount of storage space at this level and offers snappy performance overall. It comes pre-installed with the Windows 10 Home operating system.

15.6″ Full HD display with thin bezel has the 1920 x 1080 pixel screen resolution, 120Hz refresh rate and IPS panel with the wide 178-degree viewing angles for consistently vibrant colors. The 120Hz refresh rate on the display is a nice improvement on the 60Hz display and the panel is around 35% brighter than the previous model, but without the quick response times and deep colors of some of the high-end gaming machines. The RGB backlit keyboard is durable, tested to 20-million keystroke durability. The resolution is set to 1366 x 768 pixels by default and you need to force it to Full HD.

AMD Radeon RX Vega 8 is the built-in graphics card on this laptop and has a reasonable video card benchmark score of 1733 for a mid-range performance. It will be used for the basic daily media tasks on the internet, video streaming etc. NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 has the 4GB dedicated memory and a video card benchmark score of 7883 as a mid-range to high-end GPU. These NVIDIA GPUs appear to work well with the Ryzen H-series processors that Asus started to use for those gamers on low budget. You can still play the latest games with the quad-core Ryzen 5 processor and the GTX 1650 graphics card.

As a budget gaming laptop, the connectivity options include the Gigabit wave 2 Wi-Fi 5 802.11ac  for data transfer rates of up to 1.7Gbps, RJ-45 ethernet, Bluetooth 4.2, HDMI 2.0, 2 x USB Type-A 3.1 Gen. 1, a USB 2.0 Type-A, 3.5 mm combo audio and AC adapter on the left and a Kensington lock on the right. There is no Optical Drive on this model if you’ll be playing Asus TUF FX505DT-AH51 Gaming Laptop games from the DVD. The bottom panel comes off after removing some screws, so it is not hard to upgrade. There are two RAM slots, two storage bays and the BIOS battery. You need to take off the SSD storage to get to the WLAN module.  The keyboard on this Asus TUF is desktop inspired RGB-backlit hyper strike keyboard.

Asus TUF FX505DT weighs 4.85 pounds and measures 14.2 x 10.3 x 1 inches, is fairly, slim, compact and lightweight for a modern gaming machine. It has the thinner bezel with the brand new NanoEdge design. It offers immersive high-fidelity 7.1-channel virtual surround-sound audio for your games, videos and music. The system stability will be maintained with dust accumulation prevented with the ADC- anti dust system. There is no metal alloy surface or Thunderbolt 3 connection on this machine like the high-end gaming laptops and can compete with the other entry level machines like the Acer Nitro 5, Dell G5 15 and MSI GP or GF series. The warranty offered on this budget gaming machine is one year by Asus and if you register it online you’ll get an accidental damage protection as well.
