asus tuf gaming 17.3-inch FX705DY-EH53

ASUS TUF FX705DY-EH53 is a 17.3-inch Full HD Gaming Laptop with the relatively high-end specs for a general use non-gaming laptop and the mid-range specs for a beginner’s gaming laptop at a budget price. You have three other laptop configurations available on the Amazon product page, like the 17.3″ | 512G SSD | RX 560X, 15.6” 120Hz | 512 | GTX 1650, and the 15.6” 120Hz | 512G SSD | RTX 2060.

The main specs on the Asus FX705DY-EH53 include the mid-range AMD Ryzen 5 3550H processor, AMD Radeon RX560X graphics card, 8GB memory, generous size 512GB Solid State Drive, Windows 10 Home pre-installed, Gigabit Wi-Fi 5 and other modern connectivity ports. It weighs 5.9 pounds and measures 15.7 x 11 x 1.02 inches- is 15.7” wide with a 1.02-inch profile as a compact and portable gaming laptop with a relatively small footprint for a 17.3” machine.

The first quarter of 2019 release quad core AMD Ryzen 5 3550H processor (2M cache) runs on 8 threads and at a base speed of 2.1GHz that moves up to 3.7GHz with the turbo boost feature when the more advanced demanding tasks require it. The Passmark benchmark score is 8409 as an advanced processor and the typical Thermal Design Power is 35 watts on this machine. You can expect higher performance under long load periods than the similar Ryzen 5 3500U processor, because of the TDP of 35 watts vs. 15 watts.

17.3-inch Full HD IPS non-touch screen with NanoEdge screen has the 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution for very clear images and the IPS panel with good viewing angles with very little motion blur. 7.2mm narrow bezel offers up to 79% screen-to-body ratio for more immersion. The Radeon RX 560X with a dedicated 4GB memory has a video card benchmark score of 3455 as mid-range to high-end graphics card. This is a capable laptop with a mid-range gaming performance, somewhere between a Ryzen 5 2500U and Ryzen 7 2700U.

8GB DDR4 SDRAM at 2400 MHz lets you multitask easily and efficiently for school, work, music or gaming. 512GB PCIe NVMe M. 2 SSD is great for both size and snappy performance overall. Connectivity options include the Gigabit Wave 2 Wi-Fi 5 802.11ac wireless at 1.73GHz speed, Bluetooth, RJ-45 Ethernet jack, HDMI output, a USB 2.0 port, 2 x USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports and a 3.5mm audio jack. It doesn’t come with an Optical Drive if you wish to play games from DVD or CD. But that’s not a problem as the external drives are available at very low prices and can be connected through Bluetooth wirelessly or a USB port.

The red backlit keyboard with a key travel has a great keystroke durability- is claimed to endure 20 million key presses. It comes with double fans with the anti-dust cooling feature that helps prolong the life of the laptop and the chassis has the military grade MIL-STD-810G rating construction, offering stability and reliability during heavy gaming sessions. There won’t be any dust build-up in the thermal fins. Fans keep the system cool without making any noise and the laptop never gets hot.

Trackpad is kind of the weakness of this great value machine, it is reported to be not very user-friendly and you can always use a mouse if the trackpad doesn’t seem to be satisfactory. When the laptop is in battery mode the gaming power drops, or you can change the power settings but the battery will drain much quicker. Otherwise it is a great beginner’s gaming machine recommended by a few tech people online, that is very sturdy and durable, that offers great gaming and non-gaming performance with plenty of speed and power, runs smoothly and that is offered at an affordable price. You can play most of the modern games easily at middle to high settings and resolutions on this brand new Asus TUF.
