ASUS Flip T500LA-AB53T is a 2-in-1 laptop and tablet in one machine with a 15.6 inch high sensitivity touch display that rotates 360 degrees and stays at any angle with it sturdy hinge, a powerful 4th generation Intel i5 processor, generous amounts of memory for multitasking and hard drive for storage. It is quite an expensive looking machine with an FHD screen without the price tag of competition.

ASUS Flip T500LA has the 1.7GHz base speed (up to 2.7GHz with Turbo Boost) ultra low voltage (max power usage of 15W) dual core Intel i5-4210U processor (U stands for ultrabook) with hyper threading to handle four threads in parallel, 8 GB DDR3L SDRAM to multitask efficiently and smoothly, 1TB Serial ATA hard drive at 5400 rpm Hard Drive and the 64-bit version of Windows 8.1 operating system to use comfortably with the responsive touch feature.

You’ll get to perform your daily tasks efficiently with the powerful i5-4210U processor and large 8GB RAM for multitasking- you can basically have 20-25 tabs easily open on a browser, download a movie, play songs and work on your spreadsheets or edit your photos at the same time and you will be fine- no freezing and minimal delays. 1024GB is a lot of space for anyone to save their files- videos, songs and files. It has the Instant On feature to make the system wake up from sleep in 2 seconds.

One of the best features of ASUS Flip is its screen quality- an impressive Full HD 15.6 inch 360 degree rotating touch screen with a native resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels for sharp picture with vibrant colours and the integrated Intel Intel HD 4400 UMA graphics card that is 20-30% faster than the Intel HD 4000 and a little slower than the Intel HD 4600- UMA meaning the graphics card uses the same memory as the CPU. So it is nothing like a mid range dedicated graphics card that would allow you to play current game titles but it is kind of equivalent to the performance of Radeon HD 7550M. Touch function is quite accurate and responsive- probably better than most machines out there and is definitely optimised for Windows 8.1 functions.

The rotating screen can be fixed at any angle from 0 to 360 degrees with its special hinge that will hold it tight. So if you’re watching movies or playing games it is nice to be able to use the computer at different angles or flat on tablet mode. For great quality sound, you have the Asus SonicMaster and stereo speakers for full rich and clear sound through the stereo speakers with a deep bass and a wide audio range. Asus AudioWizard will let you choose different modes for games, movies and songs. VGA webcam with integrated microphone is good for live chats with family and friends and videoconferencing for work.

Brushed-hairline aluminium finish ASUS Flip is a solid and durable machine and has a modern and elegant look with a premium feel to it with its minimalist yet stylish design. It weighs 5 pounds with dimensions of 10.20 x 15 x 0.90 inches so it is fairly slim, lightweight and portable- not a super light machine as it is a 15.6 inch with touch function. Keyboard is comfortable and ergonomic and has a 10-key numeric pad on the side for more efficient number crunching, but not backlit. There is no DVD drive but 802.11 bgn wireless, Bluetooth 4.0, 10/100/1000/Gigabits Base T Gigabit Ethernet with RJ-45 LAN, 2 x USB 2.0 ports, 1 x USB 3.0 port, an HDMI port, a 2-in1 Card Reader (SD/SDHC), a VGA webcam and a Combo Auido Jack.

Conclusion: 15.6 inch ASUS Flip T500LA-AB53T is a great value for money versatile and functional machine. It would come down to personal choices if you’d use the flip feature but it is good to have and doesn’t really seem to add to the price of this laptop considering how much more fancy 2-in-1’s can cost while potentially sacrificing on performance, specs and features- good that this doesn’t seem to be so much the case here. Powerful Intel i5 processor and 8GB RAM are more than sufficient for work purposes (in laptop mode) or home entertainment and smooth multimedia (in laptop and tablet mode).
