Black Lenovo Flex 2 14 (59435728) is a slim and lightweight 14.0-Inch touchscreen 2-in-1 dual mode laptop that flips 300 degrees and turns into a tablet with stand, but as the keyboard is not removable it can’t be used as a full tablet. It is suitable for both work and entertainment with its 300 degree folding design. It is a great looking machine- less than 1 inch thick and weighs only 4.2 pounds, has a 10-point multi-touch high definition display, an Intel i5 processor that you see even on the entry level 2014 model Apple iMac, an AccuType keyboard, Dolby Advanced Audio and a good range of connectivity at an affordable price.

Lenovo Flex 2 14 is offered with the Haswell dual core Intel i5-4210U processor at 1.7 GHz base speed that goes up to 2.7GHz dynamically with turbo boost and hyper threading for two cores to handle four threads in parallel to make better use of the CPU, 4GB DDR3 SDRAM that would be adequate most of the time but can be upgraded to/ swapped with an 8GB memory as it has only one memory slot, 500 GB hard drive at 5400 rpm is decent amount of space for all your files but there is not an extra SSHD like some other Flex models so you won’t be able to make use of the speedy Solid State Drive if you don’t replace the HDD but will have the larger storage space provided by the regular hard drive. Operating system is the 64-bit Windows 8.1 that is common in most modern computers these days.

14 inch HD LED backlit 10pt glass multi-touch screen with 1366x768 pixels maximum screen resolution and the integrated Intel HD 4400 graphics card that is about 20-30% faster than the Intel HD 4000 means decent image quality but not 1920 x 1080 Full HD with IPS panel, it is a regular HD with a TN panel but is OK at 14 inches, given that it is both a touch display and that turns 300 degrees. Intel HD 4400 is not fit for modern gaming but the performance will be positively affected by the i5-4210U CPU so you will get some gaming performance out of it- older games at higher settings but the later games like Assassin’s Creed at lower settings and at lower frames per second. 10-point multi-touch screen is optimised to be used comfortably with Windows 8.1 functions and you can tap, scroll, swipe, zoom, rotate and more. You will experience rich and immersive sound through its stereo speakers and Dolby Advanced Audio with reduced distortion and improved sound quality. It also has a nice 720p HD webcam with an integrated microphone for those Skype chats or video conferencing for work.

14 inch Lenovo Flex 2 14 Touchscreen Laptop (59435728) Black Review
Lenovo Flex 2 weighs 4.2 pounds, is 0.88 inch thick (less than 1 inch) and with up to 7 hours of battery life from its lithium ion battery with the power saving technology and protection of long-term durability by Lenovo Energy Manager, it is rather portable if you’re on the go a lot, but just do not get the impression that it may be as light or slim as a tablet because this is not a tablet but more a laptop PC that can be used as a tablet on a stand. Bear in mind that you can’t use it as a full tablet as it turns 300 degrees not 360 degrees and the keyboard is not detachable, so what you’ll have is its keyboard turning into a stand. Being a Lenovo, it comes with the AccuType non-backlit keyboard that is comfortable and ergonomic but without the 10-key numeric pad as this is a 14 inch computer, which you should get used to in no time, especially if you don’t do a lot of data entry and a multi-touch touchpad that is optimised for Windows 8.1 just like the touchscreen. There is no optical drive but 802.11bgn wireless, Bluetooth 4.0, Gigabit Ethernet with RJ-45 for wired internet, 2 x USB 2.0 ports, 1 x USB 3.0 port, an HDMI port, SD/MMC media card reader and 720p webcam and microphone.

Conclusion: Lenovo Flex 2 14 (59435728) is not just about the flexibility of its dual modes by its 300 degree flipping touch display, but also about the speed, performance and functionality with its 4th generation Intel i5-4210U processor that performs well in daily tasks as well as more demanding media editing or other complex software. Touchscreen is actually quite nice to have with Windows 8.1 operating system and with the added functionality of the stand mode of the flipping screen, especially for those that prefer the functionality. Do not think of the Lenovo Flex 2 as a gaming PC as it is not priced as one nor have a mid-range graphics card but the integrated Intel HD 4400, despite its restrictions, will allow you to play even the latest games at lower settings and at OK frame rates with the power of Intel i5 processor. Lenovo’s AccuType keyboard is ergonomic and designed to let you type comfortably. Intel i5 performance is rather impressive, considering the price level of the system and if you choose to install a Solid State Drive, you will be able to boot up in only a few seconds and will get overall faster performance, given that you only have 4GB RAM and you may want to replace that with 8GB so you can multitask more demanding stuff better. It comes with a 12 month warranty by Lenovo as well as 30 day trials of McAfee anti-virus and Microsoft Office and you will also like the fact that you’ll be able to recover from technical problems with OneKey Recovery that lets the system back up your data and recover from difficulties easily.
