It is a budget priced laptop with the mid-range specs and features for your daily tasks for work and play at home, school or work. The quarter two of 2019 release dual core AMD Ryzen 3 3200U processor (2 cores & 4 threads) works at the speeds between 2.6GHz and 3.5GHz with the turbo function. The average CPU Passmark benchmark score is 4155 at the moment, which indicates upper mid-range processing power. And you shall be able to perform most of your daily tasks easily unless you need to do complex multimedia editing, run demanding engineering programs or play the latest games.
The typical Thermal Design Power is 15 watts for an enhanced battery life of up to 9 hours and 15 minutes in video playback and 10 hours and 45 minutes for mixed usage. The laptop boots up and shuts down in just seconds, opens and transfers your files very quickly and the whole experience feels snappier overall thanks to the 256GB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD. And it is more than adequate as storage space unless you have many videos, games or music to save on the local storage. 15.6″ diagonal HD BrightView micro-edge WLED-backlit display has the 82% screen to body ratio, 60Hz refresh rate and 1366 x 768 pixel resolution. It is not as clear or vibrant as a Full HD display but appears to be OK at the current price point, considering the other features of the laptop. As an Energy Star certified and EPEAT Silver registered laptop it is environmentally friendly, with an arsenic free glass on the screen and low halogen and mercury-free backlighting. The HP TrueVision HD webcam on the top bezel has two microphones and a great noise reduction software for when you chat live on Skype or record sound.
The built-in Radeon Vega 3 is an entry level GPU for laptops but benefits from the fast dual channel RAM at 2400MHz. It offers a similar performance to the dedicated NVIDIA GeForce 910M and you can’t really play the latest demanding games fluently. It has a videocard benchmark score of 922 and offers 50-60% less performance overall than the Vega 8 graphics card that we’ve seen on the Ryzen 5 3500U processor. HP 15-ef0021nr is a great modern laptop for normal daily use and despite the small flaws it does what it is supposed to do and offers good value for money.
