Toshiba Satellite L75-B7340 (PSKS4U-016001) is a powerful high performance laptop as part of the L70 series with a 4th generation Intel i7 processor, a large HD+ 17.3 inch screen and happens to be more of a desktop replacement than a portable one for those on the go. It looks good in satin gold with fusion finish, offers stylish looks with its slim design, versatility, smart performance for both entertainment at home and productivity at work so it would be suitable for small home businesses, families and students that want power for both the daily and very demanding tasks at an affordable price.
Toshiba Satellite L75 is offered with the very powerful high-end Haswell quad core Intel i7-4710HQ processor at 2.5GHz speed that moves up to 3.5GHz dynamically with turbo and its quad cores can handle 8 threads in parallel leading to enhanced usage of the CPU, 8GB DDR3 SDRAM for advanced multitasking without lags or freezing even under heavier load and that can be expanded up to a maximum of 16GB, 1TB Serial ATA hard drive at 5400 rpm rotating speed as very large storage space for all your files- photos, songs, videos or ordinary files but at standard speed and Windows 8.1 operating system which you should be able to upgrade to the new Windows 10 soon. Intel i7-4710HQ has a Passmark benchmark score of 7905 on the day of this review and even the very complex and demanding software and heavy multitasking won’t be a problem for this system.
17.3 inch diagonal HD+ TruBrite LED-backlit display with a maximum of 1600x900 pixel resolution and Mobile Intel HD 4600 graphics offers superior visuals when you’re navigating on Windows 8 apps, watching videos and creating multimedia on its large screen and it has an HDMI port and supports triple monitors- meaning two other screens which is especially great when you are multitasking. Intel HD 4600 performs better than Intel HD 4000 (60% faster overall and 30% difference in gaming performance) but less than 5000 and compares well to the discrete NVIDIA GeForce GT 620M/630M or AMD Radeon HD 8650G. Sound quality is nothing like you may have experienced on an ordinary laptop, it is much better- clear and loud with rich bass, enhanced dialogues and distortion- free performance at max levels through its stereo speakers and Skullcandy DTS Sound or via the headphones- you have the headphone jack, microphone jack and integrated stereo speakers tuned by Skullcandy.
Fusion finish in satin gold Toshiba Satellite weighs 5.9 pounds with dimensions of 10.60 x 16.30 x 1.30 inches- lightweight for a modern 17 inch laptop but relatively slim considering it has a DVD drive supporting 11 formats. Other connectivity options include 802.11bgn wireless, 10/100/1000 Ethernet with RJ-45 connectivity, 2 x USB 3.0 ports (one of them with Sleep and Charge function so you can charge your phone or other devices when the laptop is off or asleep), 2 x USB 2.0 ports, an HDMI port with 4K UHD output capability, a VGA port, an SD Card Slot- Memory Card Reader but no SmartCard Reader slot and no Bluetooth (or Antenna)- not supported by default but it’s just a matter of getting a cheap USB dongle and connecting to one of the 4 USB ports. Frameless raised tile keyboard has a rather premium look and feel- is backlit, has a 10-key numeric pad for easy number crunching and a touchpad that supports multiple gestures without the separate right and left click buttons. Built-in HD webcam with digital microphone is handy for informal live chats on Skype or formal video conferences with colleagues.
Conclusion: Toshiba Satellite L75-B7340 is a great powerful 17.3 inch HD+ display laptop with the advanced Intel i7-4710HQ that is capable of handling very demanding tasks and with the help of large memory heavy multitasking won’t be a problem for this system. So about the minor cons the system has.. First one would be Windows 8 as usual for some but the arrival of the 2015 release Windows 10 will make that problem disappear, second con to note would be the keyboard- due to the complaints by a couple of customers that find the keys stiff and hard to press but this doesn’t seem to be the case for many other users, so it is probably more of a personal choice thing and it is not an advanced gaming PC due to the lack of at least a mid-range dedicated graphics card but it will handle some of the latest computers at lower settings just fine. Other than these small drawbacks, it is a fast and powerful computer with great picture quality, nice graphics, impressive sound and a nice range of modern connectivity options. You get a month trial version of Microsoft Office 365 and 12 months of limited standard warranty by Toshiba. So overall you’re getting some very decent value here with this Toshiba Satellite 17.3 inch laptop- we want to stress the screen size because it would probably be one of the most important reasons to get this machine for a lot of customers- those that want a powerful desktop replacement PC with a large HD+ screen.
