Jet black Toshiba Satellite C75D-B7304 is a powerful entry to mid-range level large 17.3 inch HD+ screen Windows 8.1 laptop with nice graphics provided by Radeon R4, a quad core mid-range AMD A6 processor and a terabyte size hard drive, that lets you perform your daily tasks efficiently and play lighter games, edit photos or even create videos. It is good for students’ school work, home entertainment- HD video playback, social networking , web browsing, home office or anything not too heavy or super demanding.

Toshiba Satellite has the quad core AMD A6-6310 (2 MB level 2 cache) accelerated processor at 1.8GHz base speed up to 2.4Ghz with turbo, 4GB DDR3 SDRAM memory at 1600MHz that is factory installed and not upgradeable by the customer but adequate for efficient multitasking of daily stuff, 1TB Serial ATA hard drive that has a spinning rate of 5400rpm (fast enough read and write) and with twice the usual capacity available at this price range and 64-bit Windows 8.1 operating system that you mostly see in modern day PC laptops these days- Windows 7 is rare and Win 8.1 is not as bad as it is made out to be- a short learning curve for most users.

17.3 inch TruBrite LED-backlit TFT HD+ widescreen display with 16:9 cinematic aspect ratio, 1600 x 900 pixel max screen resolution for clear visuals and vivid colours (it may seem higher than regular HD but this is a 17.3 inch large screen laptop so the images are not as crisp as Full HD) and the integrated AMD Radeon R4 graphics with shared memory that can render HD videos and let you play older game titles fluently. It includes a front facing 720p HD Webcam and built-in digital microphone for video chats with friends and family. Sound quality is all right through DTS Sound and stereo speakers- kind of average like what you’d expect at this level but adequate and you can use headphones if you wish. It has a Headphone jack- stereo, microphone jack- mono and an HDMI port if you want to connect to even larger screen or your HDTV.

Textured resin finish in jet black Toshiba Satellite looks stylish and modern- obviously no fancy aluminium but plastic chassis, weighs 5.9 pounds with dimensions of 10.60 x 16.30 x 1.30 inches and has a 48Wh 6-cell lithium ion battery which allows you to be away from power outlets for several hours (battery life is around 4.5 hours) but it is not a particularly a compact unit and is designed more like a desktop replacement unit than a very portable PC. Keyboard is standard US but spacious with 10-key numeric pad and touchpad that supports multi touch control. There is no Bluetooth (no antenna) but has a Multiformat DVD ± RW / CD - RW drive with double - layer support as well as 802.11b/g/n WLAN, 10/100 Ethernet with RJ-45 connectivity, Multiformat media reader that supports SD, SDHC, SDXC, miniSD, microSD and MMC formats, 1 x USB 3.0 port for fast digital video, audio and data transfer and 2 x USB 2.0 ports, an HDMI output, a VGA port, HDD Recovery and a Security Cable Lock Slot- so almost all the necessary connectivity ports are covered.

Conclusion: Black Toshiba Satellite C75D-B7304 offers reliable and relatively fast and powerful overall performance with the AMD A6-6310 quad core processor, 4GB memory (that is not user expandable but should be mostly sufficient) and the dedicated AMD Radeon R4 graphics- not for advanced gaming or multimedia editing but OK for photo editing and video playbacks. We like the HD+ 17 inch large display, generous 1TB hard drive to save all your multimedia or regular files, that it has an optical drive, spaced out keys and the 10 key numpad along with the responsive touchpad, good range of connectivity (and the lack of Bluetooth can be compensated by just purchasing a cheap Bluetooth USB dongle), on the other hand speakers are reported to be not that impressive and Windows 8 is often a bit of a worry for many computer customers but it often doesn’t take too long to get used to it. It is RoHS Compatible, EPEAT Gold registered and Energy Star qualified computer and comes with a 12 month standard limited warranty for parts and labor. So if you are on the market for a well performing budget laptop with a large 17 inch display, this Toshiba Satellite is certainly a good one to look into.
