Lenovo Flex 14 2-in-1 Convertible Laptop

Black Lenovo Flex 14 (81SS000DUS) is a 2-in-1 convertible laptop that can be used as a laptop and a tablet as well as in other modes in-between, with the screen rotating around its 360-degree hinge. This very popular 2-in-1 laptop has an average customer rating of 4.4 out of 5 stars at the time of this post release.

We reviewed the 15.6-inch Flex 5 model by Lenovo last month, with its 8th generation Intel i7 processor and dedicated MX130 graphics card. The Flex 4 we’re reviewing today has a 14-inch Full HD touch display, AMD Ryzen 5 3500U processor, 256GB NVMe Solid State Drive, 12GB DDR4 SDRAM for decent multitasking power, and Windows 10 Home 64-bit operating system. You’ll get the pen included with your purchase.

With a current PassMark benchmark score of 7217, the AMD Ryzen 5 3500U is like the high-end mobile Intel i5 processors in terms of power and efficiency. 12GB DDR4 memory at 2400MHz allows you to run several browsers and apps simultaneously. And 2GB of this is occupied by the Radeon Vega 8 built-in graphics card. 256GB Solid State Drive storage is average size and should be enough for most computer users. Windows 10 offers built-in protection consistently to be protected against malware and viruses.

This system lets you play, work and multitask efficiently without lagging or freezing unless you push it very hard with your heavy and demanding tasks constantly. It will feel very smooth on daily computing tasks, with a relatively long battery life of up to 10 hours on full charge depending on how you use it. You can recharge the lithium ion battery up to 80% in just an hour. So it pretty much offers all day battery and you can be away from the power outlets all day long. The typical Thermal Design Power- TDP is 15 watts.

The 14-inch Lenovo Flex 14 has a 1920 x 1080 pixel Full HD resolution and IPS panel with up to 178-degree viewing angles and 250-nits brightness. It comes with the built-in Radeon Vega 8 graphics card that is quite good as far as the built-in GPUs go, with a videocard benchmark score of 1423 at the time of this review. It will let you edit photos and videos to some degree and enjoy some gaming as well. But it shares the memory with the main processor- takes 2GB out of the total of 12GB and you have 10GB left for other general use.

You can shut down the laptop’s webcam with the true block privacy shutter whenever you’re not using it. The digital active Pen included in the package lets you take notes or draw on the touch display whenever you want. Connectivity options include the 802.11ac wireless, Bluetooth 4.1, 2 x USB 3.0 ports, 4-in-1 Media Card Reader, HDMI 1.4 output, and 3.5mm headphone/microphone combo jack.

It weighs 3.52 pounds and measures 12.91L x 9.02W x 0.7H inches- is compact, lightweight and portable. If you get the 8GB RAM version, to add more RAM you need to remove the ten little screws at the back and the silver RAM cooler will come off. The keyboard is backlit for typing easily in the dark or dim light. There is a fingerprint reader to use with Windows Hello for easy sign-in. To sum up, you can use the Flex 14 for your day-to-day computing in the laptop mode or fold it into tablet mode or use it in stand and tent modes. It can make a decent laptop for pretty much anyone other than those that will use the computer for advanced gaming, multimedia editing or running complex engineering programs.
