HP 18-5110 is a sleek and elegant entry level All-in-One desktop with an AMD E1 processor and a vivid high definition 18.5 inch WLED display, that is simple to set-up and use for daily tasks and that helps you avoid clutter on your desk. It is an everyday things computer, designed mainly for light home users and students to check e-mails, prepare school assignments on Word and Excel, browse the net, play songs and videos as well as light games.
HP 18-5110 has an AMD E1-2500 accelerated processor (1MB L2 Cache) at 1.4 GHz clocking frequency, 4GB PC3-10600 DDR3L SDRAM (1 x 4GB and expandable up to 16GB) at 1333 MHz, 500GB SATA hard drive at 7200rpm rotating speed and Windows 8.1 operating system.. It is an entry level processor that will be adequate (with also the 4GB RAM for good amount of multitasking) for usual daily stuff and it may cause delays if running very demanding applications. 500GB is what you would expect to get at this price level and would be enough for most people but what is nice about it is the 7200 rpm rotating speed- which is 50% faster than the standard 5400rpm.
The 18.5 inch diagonal HD LED backlit display has the maximum screen resolution of 1366x768 pixels and the graphics card is the AMD Radeon HD 8240. Image quality is just sufficient at this price range but would have been nice to see higher resolution or Full HD- unfortunately you need to spend at least a few hundred more to get an AIO desktop with Full HD. Radeon 8240 can handle photo and video editing just fine but not suitable for the latest games at high settings (nor is the system processor). Speakers are located at the front of the screen and this seems to improve the sound experience. The built-in HP True Vision webcam with microphone offers clear live picture and the ability to take nice still photos in all lighting conditions.
HP All-in-One Desktop weighs 12.1 pounds with the measurements of 18.51 x 1.84 x 12.96 inches. It has a simplistic design but modern enough with bezels that are a bit thick on the sides. In terms of connectivity, you have the 802.11bgn wireless featuring Single-band (2.4Ghz), 10/100Base-T Fast Gigabit Ethernet with RJ-45, 5 USB ports at the rear of the screen (4 x USB 2.0 ports and 1 x USB 3.0 port), 1 x Audio-out port, Slim Tray SuperMulti DVD Burner, 7-in-1 Memory Card Reader, a Headphone/Microphone jack, HP TrueVision HD webcam, an Optical Mouse and a USB Keyboard with volume control- The wired keyboard and mouse seem to be standard but not necessarily cheap looking.
Conclusion: HP 18-5110 18.5 inch All-in-One desktop is a nice and neat everyday things kind of computer with a pretty design, adequate technical specs, features and all the connectivity ports that most users would need. Both the screen and audio quality are satisfactory and the webcam is decent. Windows 8.1 is not every computer user’s cup of tea but it seems to be often a case of a learning curve with Win 8. It comes with a limited 1 year manufacturer’s warranty and a full 12 month’s of technical support from HP.
If you are an avid gamer or will use the computer to be able to run demanding software and edit complex multimedia, this won’t be right for you and you will need to spend much more, especially for an All-in-One with such specs- for example the entry level of the All-in-One leader Apple iMac has the price tag of 4 times this HP’s and you do get what you pay for. So check out the pros and cons and see how much you want to spend for a computer and you’ll use it for what purpose and make your decision. But all-in-all this is a decent system that offers great value for money.
