Sleek and modern Dell Inspiron i5547-7500sLV is a powerful 5000 series 15.6 inch touchscreen laptop with a 4th generation Intel i7 processor for everyday things at home, work or school and capable of almost anything other than the demanding games at higher settings, but like any computer it does come with certain flaws that are mostly outweighed by the advantages. Now let’s see if it would be the right PC for you.

Dell Inspiron i5547-7500sLV comes with the Haswell Intel Core i7-4510U processor (4M Cache) at 2GHz base speed up to 3.1GHz with turbo boost, 8 GB (2x4GB) DDR3L SDRAM at 1600MHz that can be expanded up to 16GB, 1 TB- 1024GB Serial ATA hard drive at 5400 rpm and English 64-bit Windows 8.1 operating system.. It is an ultra low voltage processor with a TDP- thermal design power of only 15 watts, released in quarter 2 of 2014 and designed for ultra books, has the hyper threading function so dual cores can handle 4 threads in parallel for better overall performance, but it is not your top of the range i7 processor that can handle anything you throw at it.

15.6-Inch LED-backlit high definition 10-point capacitive touch display has the max screen resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels and Integrated Graphics 4400 with a performance level between Intel HD 4000 and 5000 and similar to the Radeon HD 7550M discrete card. It offers clear, crisp and sharp picture quality with vivid colours, good and functional sound performance- louder highs and lower lows with Waves MaxxAudio and Dell 2.0 stereo speakers so you’re getting decent video and audio quality when you’re watching movies or playing games- but the sound is not amazing and there is no dedicated graphics card so it is not really a gaming powerhouse. Screen is capacitive touch rather than optical which employs cameras in the bezel so it is more intuitive and responsive with its capacitive sensors right under the screen.

Dell Inspiron i5547-7500sLV 15.6 inch Touchscreen Laptop Review
Elegant brushed aluminium finish top Dell Inspiron weighs 6 pounds with measurements of 10.00 x 14.9 x 0.9 inches- slim partly because it doesn’t have a DVD drive but not really lightweight at 6 lbs. So there is no optical drive on this Inspiron but a much faster Intel Centrino Wireless-AC 3160 802.11ac wireless with enhanced performance and wider coverage, Bluetooth 4.0 tied to wireless card, Gigabit Ethernet with RJ-45 connectivity, 1 x USB 2.0 port, 2 x USB 3.0 ports, an HDMI port, Media Card Reader, 3.5mm headphone jack, FastAccess Facial Recognition that uses the HD webcam.

Full-size keyboard is backlit for typing comfortably in dim light or dark (light turns on when the keys are touched and goes off when you’re not using the computer), has a large and user-friendly touchpad to use with Windows 8 tiles and 10-key numeric pad to work comfortably on spreadsheets putting in numbers quickly. Battery life on the 3-cell lithium ion battery (43WHr) is advertised as 7.25 hours by Dell but this may be more like 5+ hours or so in average use based on customer experience, it is designed to be cool even after several hours of being on the laptop and noise doesn’t seem to be an issue- just occasional slightly increased fan noise despite having a very large hard drive. Like the other Inspiron laptops, this one is also tested for reliability (hinges, lids, keys, battery, survival in harsh heat conditions) to ensure durability.

Conclusion: Dell Inspiron i5547-7500sLV is a professional and classy looking slim laptop with the look of an ultra book with the aluminium finish top, has a durable build, 8GB of RAM for system stability with several programs or apps running simultaneously, a responsive keyboard, faster wireless impressive touch display with sharp image and great colour saturation Although this is an i7 processor, it is the ultra low voltage for ultra books type so it is not the most powerful and has a Passmark CPU benchmark score of 3987 (less than a few i5 processors) which means you shouldn’t expect a super gaming performance here but great for usual daily tasks, also there isn’t a dedicated mid-range graphics card to play such games but the Intel HD 4400 will be more than adequate for streaming movies and other graphics stuff.

Sound is not perfect so you may want to get external speakers- preferably Bluetooth ones if you wish to get superior sound performance. Windows 8 can still be hard for many but with the touchscreen on this laptop, it is probably the best operating system to have. It comes with 1 year mail-in warranty 1 month trial version of Microsoft Office and McAfee LiveSafe which we think you should remove after the trial is over and install another anti-virus program like AVG. This is a good- functional, versatile and stylish system overall offering decent value for money and is ideal for general daily use unless you want something super powerful to play the latest games or very demanding software on.
