The Dell i3542-8334BK is one of the latest Inspiron laptops with a 15.6 inch screen, a 4th generation ultra book quad core processor, large amounts of memory and hard drive and Windows 7 operating system. It offers great multimedia experience, the ability to do your daily things much faster and play some of the latest games even at higher settings with the power of Intel i5 processor.
Dell Inspiron i3542 has the Haswell 4210U version of the i5 with 3M Cache and up to 2.7 GHz speed with turbo boost- base speed of 1.7 GHz. System memory is an 8 GB (8GBx1) Single Channel DDR3 RAM at 1600 MHz and it can handle pretty much anything and efficiently in terms of multitasking- you will not experience any delays when you’re running several programs or apps at once. 1TB Serial ATA hard drive at 5400rpm rotating speed offers quite a bit of storage space for your videos, photos and songs. One of the strongest points of the Dell Inspiron is the operating system that comes pre-installed with it: The 64 bit version of Windows 7, which is great news for many people that dislike or can’t get used to the newer Windows 8, and not many new computers left in the market with the Win 7. The start up of the PC is quite fast- only around 15-20 seconds and works very quietly.
15.6 inch LED backlit Truelife HD screen with 1366 x 768 pixel resolution and Intel HD Graphics 4400 offers crisp and clear images with vibrant colours. You get to hear great high definition sound through its stereo speakers enhanced with Waves Maxx Audio so overall the system offers decent multimedia experience. Although it is not a top of the range expensive gaming PC, you can still play games like MW3 and Skyrim- some at low to medium settings and some at highest settings without any problems. You’ll need to try and work out the ideal settings when you’re playing the games. It is quite a good deal in terms of multimedia and games at this price level.
Black Dell Inspiron i3542 is easy on the eyes with its modern design and slim chassis and is fairly portable. Its connectivity options include the standard 802.11bgn wireless- Dell Wireless-N 1705, Bluetooth tied to wireless card, an HDMI 1.4a port, 1 x USB 3.0 port for fast data transfer, 2 x USB 2.0 ports, an integrated tray load multimedia DVD drive, a Media Card Reader (SD, SDHC, SDXC) for easy photo and video transfers from your camera and a security slot. The 40 WHr 4-Cell lithium ion battery offers around 6.5 hours of long battery life. The full size English keyboard with 10-key numeric pad is not backlit but spill resistant and the touchpad supports convenient multi-touch gestures and integrated scrolling.
Conclusion: Dell Inspiron is a nice all rounder at a reasonable price: Good quality sturdy build (different components tested thousands of times for durability and reliability), fast and smooth running Haswell i5 processor (although it is a 4210U one- those that end with U are for ultrabooks- the base speed is 1.7 but goes up to 2.7 GHz automatically depending on the task at hand), has ample space for storage, generous amount of RAM for multitasking (and the ability to upgrade both), quite a long battery life for a laptop PC, a DVD drive, Bluetooth connectivity and other modern day connectivity options to help you out with your daily tasks, decent quality graphics and sound and the much loved Windows 7 operating system which is hard to come by in modern day PCs these days. It even allows you to play different advanced games (at different settings).
