Dell Inspiron i3647-1234BLK is the newer version of the previous Dell Inspiron-1231BK model and comes with an Intel Pentium G3240 processor rather than the Pentium G3220 and like the other members of the 3000 Series, it has a nice sleek and compact design with smooth black surface that helps you save on desk space and comes with a good range of connectivity ports at the front and back to make your life easier.

Inspiron 1234BLK has the more recent 4th generation dual core Intel Pentium G3240 processor (3MB Cache) at 3.1 GHz speed, 4GB Single Channel DDR3 SDRAM at 1600 MHz (1x4GB- in one of the slots), 500GB SATA 6Gb/s hard drive at 7200 rpm rotational speed and Windows 8.1 64-bit English operating system.. Pentium G3240 was released in February 2014 and you can easily compare it to a processor like the Intel i3-3240 with more or less the same level of overall performance, single-core performance and over clocking but at a roughly $20 cheaper price. There is no hyper threading and no turbo boost function but the speed is plenty anyway at 3.1 GHz.

You have the adequate multitasking power with the 4GB memory to run several programs at once and 500GB would be more than enough storage space for most PC customers and the 7200rpm rather than the common 5400rpm rotating speed that we see on computers at this price level, so you’re getting great value for your money in terms of CPU, RAM and HDD. Windows 8.1 is definitely more user-friendly and fun to use than Windows 8, improving on the the things that people complained about in the previous version- it can easily be made to look just like Windows 7 with the familiar desktop screen and Start button.

It comes with the integrated Intel HD graphics so don’t expect a great gaming performance at high settings for advanced games but should be OK with older titles- light gaming and the usual photo editing and video viewing. There are no built-in speakers but the integrated 5.1 Audio to support the monitor speakers or external speakers that are connected to the PC. Monitor is not provided with your purchase of this Dell but a wired USB Entry keyboard and a wired USB optical mouse that seem to be of decent quality- they don’t seem to feel cheap.

Dell Inspiron 3000 Series i3647-1234BLK Desktop Review
Dell Inspiron weighs 15.9 pounds with dimensions of 19.88 x 15.39 x 10.32 inches. It works quietly and stays cool even during the operation of more demanding tasks. It comes with a Tray Load DVD Drive which reads and writes to CDs and DVDs, 4 x USB 2.0 ports, 2 x USB 3.0 ports, Dell Wireless-N 1705 802.11bgn wireless, Bluetooth 4.0 tied to wireless card to reduce clutter even more on your desk by hooking up to Bluetooth enabled devices wirelessly when needed, 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet with RJ-45, 8-in-1 Media Card Reader, an HDMI port, a VGA port, 2 DIMM slots, Headphone and Microphone jacks and 3-stack audio jacks for the 5.1 surround sound.

Conclusion: Although the new budget Dell Inspiron i3647-1234BLK desktop is slim and compact, it offers the power and performance of a large desktop with a solid 2014 release 4th generation Pentium processor and 4GB RAM that can be easily upgraded to 8GB by adding another 4GB RAM into the slot and it is quite an energy efficient one with a TDP of 54 watts partly by using the Haswell Pentium processor. It is suitable for work, study or home entertainment purposes except for heavy gaming- you can connect it to your large screen HDTV to watch your movies etc. and will look fine in your living room. For games, you need to upgrade to a discrete graphics card of some sort and a power supply to handle it. You would probably have a hard time finding a PC with similar or better specs at this price level though for web browsing, videos, songs, word processing and anything you’d do on a daily basis. It has the 12 month In-Home warranty if you ever need it and of course the great customer support from Dell.
