Black Dell Inspiron i15RVT-6195BLK is a nice 15.6-inch daily regular use laptop with nice features like touchscreen, the latest 4th generation Intel i3 processor, a decent battery life, Bluetooth connectivity and a DVD drive that is not commonly seen in other slim notebooks. I think Dell has another winner in the budget category here.

Intel Core i3-4010U processor (3M cache) at 1.7 GHz speed, 4 GB Single Channel DDR3 RAM at 1600MHz that is expandable to 8GB, 500 GB at 5400 rpm rotating speed Serial ATA hard drive and Windows 8.1 operating system.. You have a Haswell i3 processor that combines efficiency and speed with low power usage, thanks to also the low TDP rating.

Dell Inspiron i3542 has the Hyperthreading enabled so the dual cores may process four threads at once, so this is a decent processor for daily use like surfing the net, watching movies, Microsoft Word and Excel, some games, watching movies and pretty much anything other than very demanding tasks like the latest games and multimedia editing. Both the 4GB memory and 500GB hard drive seem more than adequate for most users. You can always upgrade the RAM to 8 GB and get an external hard drive or a solid state drive.

15.6 inch Truelife LED backlit touch screen display with a max of 1366x768 pixel resolution and Intel HD Graphics 4400 that operates with 220 MHz and goes up to 1 GHz is pretty much standard for a laptop at this level- good picture quality with vibrant colors but not full HD (you need to pay lots more for it). Touch feature is nice to have with Windows 8, you'll realise it is actually a must after using it on this one- functionality and interactivity..

It has a decent 1.0 MP webcam with digital microphone that is fit for video conferencing or chatting on Skype. It is no problem watching HD videos and playing light games and edit some multimedia but don't expect the heavy stuff. Sound is loud and clear with the Waves MaxxAudio through the double speakers.

Black Matte with textured lid and palmrest Dell Inspiron i3542 has the dimensions of 14.80” x 10.20” x 1.07”- it is reasonably slim at just over 1 inch and light with 4.85 lbs weight. You may take it easily wherever you go- it is both modern looking and portable. Despite its slim profile, you have the DVD drive for when you need to install software or watch videos. The keyboard is not backlit but has a 10-key numeric keypad for easy number crunching and its 4-cell Lithium ion battery gives you around 4 hours in normal use. It comes with a limited 1 year warranty in case problems occur- which we hope is unlikely.

When we look at the connectivity options, one thing missing may be the VGA port some customers may need, other than that you have pretty much all covered: 802.11b/g/n wireless, Integrated 10/100 Ethernet network card, 2 x USB 2.0 ports, 2 x USB 3.0 ports for up to 10 times quicker transfers, a Tray Load DVD+/-RW Drive, Bluetooth 4.0, 1 x HDMI port, 1 X RJ-45 10/100, 8-in-1 Media Card Reader, a combination headphone and microphone port and a 1 MPwebcam.

Conclusion: Black Dell Inspiron i15RVT-6195BLK seems to offer good value for money with its responsive touch display, 4th generation i3 processor, DVD drive, Bluetooth, 4 USB ports, proper battery life, solid build quality, modern thin design and lightweight and a separate numeric keypad. It is great for everyday tasks for business or home use with its powerful processor that doesn't use much power..
