Black Lenovo IdeaPad G510s 59406579 is a powerful laptop that is nicely put together with a fast Haswell i5 processor, a responsive touchscreen that works very well with the pre-installed Windows 8.1, 6GB RAM for adequate multitasking and a large 1 TB hard drive at a very low price for what it offers overall. It should be the right one for anyone that wants a relatively light and slim computer to play mid-range and even new games at lower settings and perform everything else smoothly at work or home.

Lenovo IdeaPad G510s has a 4th generation Intel Core i5-4200M processor at 2.5 GHz, 6 GB DDR3 SDRAM memory at 1600 MHz that you could upgrade to a max of 16GB, 1024 GB Serial ATA hard drive at 5400 rpm rotating speed and the Windows 8.1 operating system.. Adding a Solid State Drive of about 128GB to where the hard drive is and placing the HDD to where the DVD drive is and using them as hybrid would certainly add quite a bit to its speed, but it is fine as its is anyway- at least the 1TB is a lot of storage space for lots of videos and photos. 6GB memory enables you to do multitasking comfortably without running into any problems. The Intel i5-4200M is not the kind of processor you’d play high end games at higher settings but a great fast performer overall, even for many games and multimedia editing.

15.6 inch reflective TN panel touchscreen with 1366x768 pixel resolution and Intel HD Graphics 4600 offers relatively nice crisp visuals with decent colours when you’re streaming videos, editing photos or playing low to mid level games but this is not a 1080 pixel supporting HD screen so don’t expect a wow factor of a Macbook here just remember how much this machine costs. You can always connect it to your 1080p HDTV and watch yr video or play games on a large screen in Full HD quality. The touchscreen supports 10-point multiple gestures conveniently and it is very comfortable to use. Sound is taken care of by the double stereo speakers and Dolby Advanced Audio technology so you have a winner here for price.

Lenovo IdeaPad G510s is not the lightest 15.6 inch laptop at almost 6 pound weight (5.9 exactly) and has the measurements of 15 x 10.40 x 1.06 inches so it is not the slimmest either. You can expect to get roughly 5 hours of battery life from its lithium ion battery, thanks to partly its energy efficient Haswell processor. It has a full-size island style Lenovo AccuType keyboard with a 10-key numpad that we think is comfortable, but will come down to your personal preferences. It has a DVD±R/RW optical drive, Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity as well as a wifi 802.11bgn wireless, Gigabit Ethernet with RJ-45, a VGA port, 2 x USB 3.0 ports, 1 x USB 2.0 port, an HDMI port, Kensington security lock, Multimedia Card Reader, 3.5mm audio jack and a HD webcam with built-in microphone.

Conclusion: Black Lenovo IdeaPad G510s with a small Lenovo logo in the corner on the lid is a mid-range but premium looking laptop (almost like brushed aluminium even though it is made of plastic) with relatively high technical specs and great connectivity options. Wireless connectivity is good but not the best, screen resolution is fine but not full HD, not the lightest or slimmest machine but still portable, keyboard is not backlit but we doubt you can find a laptop model with backlit keyboard at this price level. Other than these small cons, it is a good all-rounder with good performance levels of Haswell i5 processor and 6GB RAM, spacious storage- 1024GB, 10-point multitouch screen, fairly long battery life, solid build quality and a good variety of connectivity options.
