HP Pavilion 17-E110DX / E113DX is a laptop with a 17.3 inch screen, AMD quad-core processor and 750GB hard drive. It is a very affordable desktop replacement- with a large screen, that is suitable for internet browsing, spreadsheets and word processing, playing music and video, light gaming on its high quality HD screen and everything else that you'd on a daily basis.

AMD Quad-Core A8- 4500M accelerated processor at 2.8 GHz speed is a capable one that helps with easy and smooth computing. This is not your 'best of the best' multimedia or gaming type of processor so you won't be able to play the latest 3D games or run the demanding video editing apps at high settings but great for all the other usual daily stuff and it still is one of the lowest cost 17 inch desktop replacement type PCs. 4 GB DDR3L SDRAM provides sufficient multitasking to run a few things at the same time without problems and it is also expandable to 8 GB.

750GB Serial ATA-150 hard drive at 5400 rpm is larger than the standard 500 GB that is available in most computers at this level so you have quite a bit of space for saving all your multimedia files. HP Pavilion also comes with the HP ProtectSmart hard drive protection for safer data as well as a 25GB Box Cloud storage for life. You'll find the 64-bit version of Windows 8.1 pre-installed so you won't need to upgrade from Windows 8, and you have some additional useful features you will discover on the 8.1.

You have the HDMI port so you may also link to your HDTV and get full HD quality image on the big screen. You'll hear decent, crisp and clear audio with DTS Sound+ through its stereo speakers. The HP TrueVision HD webcam with the built-in microphone is ideal for chatting live on Skype, even in reduced light.

Anodized silver sleek HP Pavilion with HP Imprint finish and micro dot design weighs 7 lbs (6 lbs according to another source) and is between 1.20 and 1.30 inch thick. It is a 17.3 inch laptop- fairly large and not really lightweight so it may be a little hard to fit in a standard bag and carry it around, it acts more like a desktop replacement. It comes with a comfortable full-size keyboard for easy and accurate typing, with 10 key numpad for easy data entry. Its 6-cell lithium ion battery should give you around 5 hours of battery life in normal use. It doesn't overheat easily- perhaps ever, thanks to the HP CoolSense technology.

You will find a good range of connectivity options as well: A Multiformat DVD±RW/CD-RW Drive, 802.11bgn wireless, 10/100Base-T Ethernet LAN With RJ-45 connector for easy wired internet, an HDMI port for connecting to larger HDTVs, a Multiformat media reader that supports secure digital format, 2 USB 3.0 ports for quick transfer of data and 1 USB 2.0 port, 3.5mm stereo jack and a HD webcam. There is no Bluetooth however, but a Bluetooth USB dongle costs only a few dollars.

Conclusion: HP Pavilion 17-E110DX / E113DX is a budget desktop replacement laptop with a powerful and fast processor, ample storage, an ergonomic keyboard with 10-key numeric keypad, nice connectivity options and interesting multimedia features to make life easier for you on a day to day basis. Windows 8 or 8.1 can seem a little different to Windows 7 but you'll get used to it in no time. More importantly, it will be more fun watching movies on its HD quality 17.3 inch screen and listening to songs with the DTS Sound+. If you are on a budget- don't want to spend too much and want a large screen laptop with overall decent features for easy computing, you can't go wrong with this one.
