Dell Inspiron i3646-1000BLK is one of the recent 2014 model 3000 series compact desktop PCs with a 4th generation entry level power efficient J1800 processor for performing daily tasks- streaming videos, preparing school assignments on Word and Excel, playing not so advanced games, browsing the internet, doing pretty much anything- including running Adobe Photoshop without encountering major issues except for the very complex software and 3D games at high settings and it seems to perform well for how much it costs.

Dell Inspiron has the Intel Celeron J1800 processor (1M L2 cache) at 2.41GHz to 2.58GHz with burst and no hyper threading function, has a TDP-thermal design power of 10 W so it is an ultra low voltage one and a Pasmark benchmark score of 1086 and it is faster than the previous Intel Atom processors but do not expect a powerhorse, 4GB DDR3L memory at 1600MHz (can be upgraded to 8GB max) for decent multitasking, 500 GB SATA hard drive at 5400 rpm rotating speed as adequate amount of storage with fast read and write times for most computer users and the Windows 8.1 operating system as a decent platform for anything you want to do on the computer on a daily basis.

Monitor is obviously not included in the package and you can choose to get a monitor with a touch feature to use all Windows 8 functions comfortably. It has the Intel HD Graphics (Bay Trail) as the low-end built-in Bay Trail graphics card and HD Audio with Waves MaxxAudio for sound. Connectivity options include 4 x USB 2.0 ports, 1 x USB 3.0 ports, an HDMI port, a VGA port, Dell Wireless-N 1705 802.11bgn- 1x1 and 2.4GHz, Bluetooth 4.0 to hook up with Bluetooth enabled devices- printers, speakers etc. wirelessly, 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet with RJ-45, 8-in-1 Media Card Reader, Multiformat DVD±RW/CD-RW drive, 2 DIMM- Memory Slots, Mic and Headphone Jacks and 3-stack audio jacks for 5.1 surround sound.

Dell Inspiron i3646-1000BLK 3000 Series Desktop Review
Black Dell Inspiron has simple yet a modern and attractive design, weighs 14.6 pounds with dimensions of 19.88 x 15.39 x 10.31 inches- is so small that it can easily be hidden behind the monitor. It comes with an island style Dell USB Wired Entry Keyboard KB11 slim keyboard with a 10-key numeric pad for easier data entry and a regular Dell USB Optical Mouse that don’t feel cheap at all. It includes a 30-day trial version of Microsoft Office and Cyberlink Media Suite Essentials and comes with a 12 month limited labor and parts warranty and great customer support by Dell.

Conclusion: Dell Inspiron i3646-1000BLK is part of the 3000 series small desktops, is easy to set-up and works extremely quietly and it is a good reliable budget PC desktop overall, also helping you save on energy bills with its max of 10W power consumption. J1800 processor is adequate for casual daily use for lighter tasks- some customers will naturally not be happy with the Windows 8 OS, if you think this will be the case for you, you can also purchase a monitor with touch feature to make better use of Windows 8 functions. If you’re looking for a PC to check your emails, surf the net, use Word and Excel, run not so demanding software and play light games- basically do your daily things, this may be a great budget PC to consider with a price hard to beat.
