Acer Aspire V5-571P-6698 Review

Pros & Cons:
Pros: Great looking - Luxury feel - Fast with 8GB of DDR3 RAM - Touchscreen - Backlit keyboard - Light - Low price tag

Cons: Intel Core second generation i3 processor (not as quick as the later release Haswell) - no SSD (Solid State Hard Drive)

Acer Aspire V5-571P-6698 is one of the thinnest laptops with a DVD drive in the market. It is surprising that it comes with a touchscreen, backlit keyboard and looks this great at this price range. Remember that Acer Aspire is not a 2k laptop when you're going through the features.

Second-generation 1.5 GHz Intel Core i3 – 2377M processor (3MB Cache) with 8 GB of DDR3 high-speed RAM. Powerful and fast enough for multimedia activities, watching videos, word processing, browsing the internet, email and light gaming. Intel i3 with 8GB RAM is more than sufficient for normal activities.

Runs on Windows 8 (Although Windows 8 requires some effort to learn, you can always switch to Windows 7 setting). And believe me you don't want to use Windows 8 on a non-touchscreen computer.

An integrated 750 GB SATA hard drive- plenty of storage space.

Silver sleek and clean, Apple inspired, everything seems to be where it should be - great layout.

Frameless 15.6 inch, 1366 x 768 pixel high resolution HD Widescreen CineCrystal™ LED-backlit Display. Intel High Definition Graphics Chip (128 MB memory) produces great images.

Decent sound with Dolby Audio system. There is no distortion on very high volume.

Comfortable backlit chiclet keyboard with numeric keypad.

1.3 MP HD webcam (1280×1024) with very clear video.

Connectivity: One USB 3.0 port, two USB 2.0 ports, Integrated 802.11 BGN Wireless and Wired Networking, Bluetooth 4.0, LAN and VGA port, 2 in 1 digital media card reader, HDMI port

An average solid battery life of around five hours- but less with heavy use such as video and image editing, watching movies and gaming.

With 5.3 lbs weight- lighter than many 15.6" laptops and less than 1" thickness, Acer Aspire V5 has maximum portability.

Conclusion: If you want a laptop for serious gaming, complex multimedia and video editing, you probably need to look for another model and spend more money. But if you will use it for normal daily activities and for running multiple basic applications, this is a great computer and we'd expect it to be current for the next few years (future proof). Acer Aspire V5 does look great and even though it is really slim, comes with a DVD drive. So we highly recommend it.
